110 Hopefuls Today At Tryouts
Staples soccer opened its 60th year with a near-record 110 players at tryouts.
Nearly 70 varsity and reserves hopeful began with a 2-mile Cooper run. Gabe Baltierra and Colin Corneck finished 1-2, well below 12 minutes. The group then headed to Wakeman, for the first of several double sessions.
Over 40 freshmen gathered at noon, where coach Chris O’Dell ran them through their paces.
The Wreckers’ first scrimmage is Tuesday (August 28, 4 pm at Wakeman vs. Fairfield Prep). The first official match is Saturday, September 8 (3 pm, home vs. Fairfield Warde).
