2020 Schedule Brings Changes

The FCIAC has announced its 2020 boys soccer schedule. For the Wreckers — who open their season September 11, hosting Ridgefield, and end it October 27 at Fairfield Ludlowe — there will be differences from last year.

The rotation is a new one, after several years with the same order of opponents. As a result, some foes will come to Loeffler Field for the 2nd year in a row; Staples will travel to others for a 2nd straight year. There are 7 home games, and 8 away.

The Westporters host several key matches, including Greenwich, Danbury, Wilton, Trumbull, Norwalk and Brien McMahon.

Trinity Catholic — a class “S” (small) school in danger of closing — will no longer field a soccer team. That brings the league down to 16 teams. There will be no “bye” week, and only 3 instances of 3 games in one week (last year there were 3 weeks with 3 matches each).

During that week with 3 games, the blue-and-whites are away all 3 times. They travel to Stamford, Bridgeport Central and St. Joseph.

It also means the Wreckers may play a 15-game regular season schedule, not 16. If they do add a 16th, it would be against a non-FCIAC team.

Trinity Catholic — then called Stamford Catholic — first fielded a soccer team in 1979. In the 40 years since, Staples’ record against the Crusaders has been a perfect 35-0-0.

Here is the schedule. Home matches begin at 4 p.m. Away kickoff times are at the discretion of the those teams.

  • Sept. 11, Ridgefield (home)
  • Sept. 15, New Canaan (away)
  • Sept. 17, Greenwich (home)
  • Sept. 23, Danbury (home)
  • Sept. 25, Westhill (away)
  • Oct. 1, Wilton (home)
  • Oct. 3, Darien (away)
  • Oct. 7, Fairfield Warde (away)
  • Oct. 9, Trumbull (home)
  • Oct. 13, Stamford (away)
  • Oct. 15, Central (away)
  • Oct. 17, St. Joseph (away)
  • Oct. 21, Norwalk (home)
