Chris O’Dell Returns As Freshman Coach

With Russell Oost-Lievense now teaching in Darien, Chris O’Dell returns this fall as coach of the freshman team. In that role from 2004 to 2015, Chris provided a perfect introduction to Staples soccer for hundreds of 9th graders. They developed lifelong bonds with each other and Chris, as they began their high school careers.

Russell will continue on the Staples coaching staff. He’ll assist Nicky Hoberman’s reserve team when he is available.

Chris played on the state champion 1993 team, and captained the ’94 squad. Nicky helped the 2006 team reach the state finals. Russell played on that team, and captained the 2007 Wreckers.

“That says a lot about the power of Staples soccer,” says head coach Dan Woog. “Former players continue to give back so much to the program. They pass along our legacy — and get the next generation ready to follow in their footsteps.”
