Mark Noonan ’83: Surf’s Up!

Mark Noonan ’83 has a new — and very exciting — job,

The former MLS and Soccer United Marketing executive vice president, who most recently ran his own sports marketing firm, is joining the Association of Surfing Professionals as chief commercial officer (CCO). But though the organization is centered in Santa Monica, California, he’s not going far. Noonan’s first job is developing and staffing the ASP’s new office in New York City.

Noonan comes to the ASP from FocalSport, a sports marketing and media agency he founded and led since its inception in 2005. Clients included Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing; the New York Mets and SNY (Noonan worked on Citi Field naming rights; FIBA (the world governing body of basketball), the USTA, USA Today Sports Media Group and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Noonan previously served as chief marketing officer of US Soccer, and director of integrated marketing for Gatorade.

Noonan was a key member of the 1981 and ’82 state championship Staples soccer teams — and the 1986 NCAA Division I national champion Duke University side. He has maintained an avid interest in Staples soccer, from playing in the Watermelon Cup leagues to serving as a member of the Top of the Hill Team.

Congratulations, Noons!

Mark Noonan, on his induction into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame.
