Staples Trainer ‘G’ Caps Off State Championship Day By Giving Birth

Staples trainer Gaetana DiLeo said she’d be at Staples’ state championship match yesterday.

She never showed up — assistant trainer Erin Guertin was there, of course, to share in the victory — but ‘G’ had a great excuse.

She was giving birth.

Michaela Maya Deiso was born at 11:51 p.m. — just 7 hours after the Wreckers celebrated their own milestone.  She weighed in at a whopping 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and is 20 inches tall.

“She is the most precious little thing in my life,” G said in an email message soon afterward.

“It is truly an amazing miracle when you bring an angel to life.  Doug and I are in absolute love.”

She thanked the Staples boys soccer team for their support and prayers, adding, “We truly appreciate it from the bottom of our 3 hearts!”

The state champion Wreckers congratulate G on her wonderful news.  They’re sorry she missed the big game — but look forward to getting to know Michaela on the sidelines of many more great moments in the years to come.
