Wreckers Welcome 2012 Candidates

Nearly 60 seniors, juniors and sophomores began tryouts this morning at Wakeman Field. Another 39 gathered at noon for the freshman team.

“This is the shortest pre-season we’ve ever had,” said head coach Dan Woog. With school starting Monday, the Wreckers have only 2 days of double sessions — the fewest ever.

And with the 1st scrimmage looming Wednesday (4 p.m. vs. Newtown, Loeffler Field), the coaching staff must move quickly.

“We’ve got a very good mix of classes,” Woog said. “We’ve got varsity returnees who didn’t see much time last year who are ready to step it up. We’ve got some solid younger players who are pushing them.

“This is a great time of year. People are fighting for spots, and everything is possible. Time is short, there’s work to be done — and we’re ready to do it.”
