Kenji Goto Takes Early Octathlon Lead

Kenji Goto had a perfect day — winning the team and individual bowling events, and piling up the most strikes — to take the lead in the 2014 Jack Scott Octathlon of Champions.

The 8-event competition, open to all varsity and JV players, runs through August. It was renamed last summer in honor of 2-time winner Jack Scott.

Eight different varsity returnees design one event each. This year’s initial one was organized by Noah Schwaeber, and held at the Rip Van Winkle Lanes in Norwalk. Several juniors were unable to attend, due to formal dance tonight.

Goto — a sophomore defender — teamed up with Schwaeber to take the team score, with 155 points. Graham Gudis and Grant Sirlin were 2nd (128), followed by John Fincher and Jack Zeldes (115).

Goto then rolled a 143 in the individual competition, edging Fincher by 2 points. Carl Amacker placed 3rd (122).

Goto’s 6 strikes, over 2 games, earned him additional points.

February’s Octathlon is basketball. The organizer is Nate Argosh.

Point totals after the 1st Octathlon: Kenji Goto (29), Noah Schwaeber (11), John Fincher (9), Carl Amacker and Jack Zeldes (4), Graham Gudis, Max Hammer, Andres Marmelo, Daniel Perez-Elorza and Grant Sirlin (1).

Octathlon bowlers (front): Max Hammer, Andres Marmelo, Daniel Perez-Elorza, Jack Zeldes. Back: Grant Sirlin, Carl Amacker, Noah Schwaeber, John Fincher, Graham Gudis, Kenji Goto.

Daniel Perez-Elorza shows fine bowling form.
