Staples vs. Choate Game Report (scrimmage)

The Wreckers’ very tough preseason schedule continued, with a match at prep school powerhouse Choate Rosemary Hall this afternoon.

Staples was missing tri-captains Michael Reid (sick) and Andrew Puchala (injury). But keeper Noah Schwaeber came on for 20 minutes, his 1st appearance of the year following a broken finger.

The Westporters allowed Choate to control much of the 1st half. The Wild Boars scored early, but keeper Ziggy Hallgarten kept the hosts at bay for the rest of the 1st 40. After surrendering a 2nd tally in the 2nd half, the Wreckers roared to life. Luca Cocito headed in Kenji Goto’s service, to halve the score.

“We’ve been inconsistent so far,” said head coach Dan Woog. “The 2nd half today, and the entire South Kent match, were very solid. We look forward to the Wethersfield jamboree (Saturday) to get a great rhythm.” The regular season begins next Tuesday, with a 4 p.m. home match against St. Joseph.
