Soccer Car Wash Sets Another Record!

The little things add up big.

And when all the money was tallied after today’s car wash at Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, the 2014 varsity, JV and freshman soccer teams — and their parents — had done so many little things that they set a Staples soccer record.

The $3,020 grand total was the most in over 20 years of soccer car washes. It beat the previous record — set last year — by a whopping $10.

Nearly 70 players — and a host of parents — worked 2-hour shifts, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the downtown parking lot. Even at closing time, cars continued to pour in.

Funds raised help cover expenses beyond the Board of Education budget — including paying off the pledge for the Wakeman B turf field, scholarships, the banquet and much more.

The annual car wash is also important as a “program bonding” event. Players on all 3 teams work together.

Parents Larry Berman, Betsy Berman, Dick D’Addario, Mark Argosh, Mark Gudis and Mary Grace Gudis, plus players Josh Berman and Graham Gudis, worked all 3 shifts — and helped set up and clean up. Head coach Dan Woog praised all who contributed to the car wash (and bake sale) in any way. “We could not do what we do without everyone’s help,” he said. “Today, everyone set the standard for all who follow.”
