Next Tuesday’s Home Opener Postponed

The Wreckers’ 2nd match of the season — set for this  Tuesday, September 15, against Stamford — has been postponed. The new date is Friday, October 23. Both the varsity (Loeffler Field) and reserves (Wakeman E) will play at home at 4 p.m., as originally scheduled. The freshmen will travel to Stamford, also on October 23.

The postponement arose when the Black Knights realized they have no school Monday and Tuesday, due to Rosh Hashana.

“It’s interesting,” says head coach Dan Woog. “We would have gone into Tuesday’s match without training on Monday, because Westport schools are off that day only. Now we’ve added one more match near the end of the season, when the schedule gets tight.

“But we don’t care. We always say we’ll play anyone, anywhere, any time. Right now our focus is entirely on Trumbull (home opener, Friday, September 11, 3:45 p.m. away). When that’s over, we’ll start preparing for Ridgefield (Thursday, September 17, 6 p.m., away).”

The Wreckers’ 1st home match is now Tuesday, September 22, 3 p.m. vs. Greenwich.
