Wreckers Raise Farmers Market Funds For Gillespie Center

It’s a 4-pronged project. And the Staples boys soccer team is already 1/4 of the way there.

Today, 7 varsity players spent several hours at the Westport Farmers Market. They helped shoppers carry bags of produce, meat, baked goods and more to their cars. They earned $412 in tips — all of which will go to the 2nd phase.

Next week, the Wreckers join chef Luke Lamparelli. Together they’ll shop at the Farmers Market for fresh, wholesome ingredients.

The next day — phase 3 — they’ll help Luke cook a meal. That night, they’ll serve it at Westport’s Gillespie Shelter, for homeless residents.

“We do what we can to give back to the community that has given us so much,” says head coach Dan Woog. “It’s an honor to help.”

Thanks to today’s excellent bag carriers and tip earners: Josh Berman, Kenny Brill, Matt Engler, Ziggy Hallgarten, Teddy Lawrence, Timmy Liles and Vaughan Sealey.
