Record Crowd Rocks Turkey Bowl

86 (or so) alumni, current players, sons/future players, non-Staples academy players, relatives and random other members of the Staples soccer family showed up yesterday under sunny skies, in brisk temperatures, for the 40th-or-so annual Turkey Bowl. Another 2 or 3 dozen former and current parents (and retired alums) watched.

The 3 fields were crowded Games ranged from 8-v-8 (or so) to 15-v-15 (or so).

But of course, everyone had a great time. It was a traditional — and wonderful — way to see old friends, talk and laugh, enjoy our great sport, test skills against older and more experienced (or younger and fitter) players, see some All-Americans and current college players (and a candidate for US Soccer president), and work up an appetite for Thanksgiving dinner.

There were no official “winners” in round-robin play. Instead, everyone won.
