03 Wreckers Reach Region I Finals
The Beachside U-15 side fell 1 game short of reaching the national tournament.
The squad with defenders Aaron Liu, Jake Malowitz and Taylor McNair (injured) fell 1-0 this morning to Baltimore Bays Chelsea — in overtime — at the US Youth Soccer Region I championship in Barboursville, West Virginia.
The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association state cup champs went 2-1-0 in group play, then beat AC Bethesda (MD) 2-1 in the semifinal.
Beachside’s U-18s, including midfielder Alan Reiter and keeper Michael McCarthy, had a clean 3-0-0 slate in the first round. They were ousted 3-0 in the semis by TSF Academy Celtic. That New Jersey squad dropped a 1-0 decision in the final to Eastern Pennsylvania’s’ YMS Explosion.
The Beachside U-12 team, with Westporter Graham Gudis, was also 3-0-0 in group play. They went out agonizingly, in the 11th round of penalty kicks, to PDA Pele of New Jersey.
