Colin Corneck Crushes Cooper

The wet asphalt at PJ Romano Field did not bother Colin Corneck. The senior defender — who in addition to soccer, is a varsity swimmer and golfer at Staples — blazed to an 11:33 in the annual 2-mile Cooper fitness test.

Junior George Smith finished 2nd, in 11:40. Rounding out the top finishers were junior Jack Douglas (11:42), sophomore Ryan Thomas (11:52), junior Jack Foster (11:53), sophomore Aidan Mermagen (11:56), junior Graham Barnes (11:55), junior Haydn Siroka (11:58), senior Evan Birns (12:06), senior Patricio Perez Elorza, junior Surya Balaji and sophomore Thomas Corridon, (12:08), sophomore Jacob Greenberger (12:09), senior Lars Djuve (12:13) and senior Callum Wisher (12:14).

Tryouts began today with 55 hopefuls, and another 35 freshmen. The day marked the first time ever for Staples on the new Wakeman turf — a welcome replacement for the 13-year-old surface.

George Smith and Carter Bassler were cheered on by teammates at the Cooper test. From left: Emerson Anvari, Haran Eiger, Bassler, Smith, Alan Fiore, Haydn Siroka, Enzo Valadares, Ryan Thomas, Sam Vannart, Vig Karredy.
