Scrimmage Report: Staples vs. Joel Barlow
Staples’ 2nd test of the preseason yesterday came at Joel Barlow High School. The SWC powerhouse is — as always — possession-minded and disciplined. Their grass field was very different from Tuesday’s turf at Fairfield Prep.
Once again the Wreckers netted 3 goals. After a scoreless 1st half, Evan Birns pressured, won a ball, then finished clinically. The 2nd score came after pressure by Haydn Siroka; Murilo Moreno tallied. More pressure from Lars Djuve enabled Siroka to round the keeper for the 3rd strike.
Surya Balaji, Jack Douglas and Brendan Lynch anchored the defense.
Staples is in action Saturday, at the Wethersfield jamboree. In addition to the Eagles, they face Tolland and Kingswood-Oxford.
