Watermelon Cup Week 5 — A Wild Regular Season Finish

The tightest regular season finish in Watermelon Cup history saw 2 teams tie for 1st place — and 2 for the final playoff spot.

The 2 4th-place squads — Bhutan and England — split the 2 matches they played against each other. So the next criteria was comparative scores in those matches. Bhutan (won 5-2, lost 3-1) edged England — and reached the playoff — by only one goal. Crazy stuff.

At the top of the table, both India and Brazil had 17 points, with 5-3-2 marks. They drew tonight. Brazil earned the top spot, thanks to an earlier victory.

The semifinals and finals are next Wednesday; the 2 non-qualifying teams can play a friendly during the semifinals if they wish.

Pairings: #1 Brazil vs. #4 Bhutan; #2 India vs. #3 Israel
