Kyle Martino ’99 Gets Wreckers Ready For FCIAC Finals
Pasta dinners have become a tradition for Staples boys soccer. (And other Wrecker teams. But soccer was the first to institute them regularly, nearly 40 years ago.)
The squad held a special one Sunday night, 24 hours before the FCIAC final against Greenwich.
Kyle Martino ’99 was the guest. The former National High School Player of the Year, MLS Rookie of the Year, US men’s national team player, NBC Sports Premier League announcer, Goalpher inventor and candidate for US Soccer president gave the current players insights into the exciting road that lies ahead.
Martino told the 2025 players that of all the things he’s accomplished, he often reflects on the joy of his own FCIAC championship. He said he mentions it frequently, in interviews.
He also inspired them with this: “Be there for the guy on the left, the guy on the right, the guy in front and the guy behind. It’s about desire — and light the fire!”
Martino will be in the Fairfield Warde stands at 6 p.m. Monday night, as the Wreckers shoot for the 28th FCIAC crown in their storied history.
