Update — Dan Woog’s Appearance On NPR

A national audience heard a discussion of the high school/Academy boys soccer issue today on NPR’s “On Point” radio show.

Staples High School boys soccer head coach Dan Woog and US Soccer’s Academy Development director of scouting Tony Lepore talked about the pros and cons of both sides. The discussion included US and international soccer cultures; the social and educational benefits of high school sports; the Academy’s philosophy of training vs. playing; “pay for play,” and — a recurrent theme — where this all fits in the context of last night’s stunning Olympic team tie-that’s-really-a-loss to El Salvador.
