1Wrecker Booters Help Track Team Topple Danbury For FCIAC Title
For 11 years, Danbury reigned supreme in FCIAC boys outdoor track.
Yesterday — in Danbury — Staples ended that streak.
The Wreckers not only beat the Hatters– they demolished them. The Westporters’ final point total was 147.5. Danbury trailed far behind, at 82.5.
Six soccer players competed for Staples. Five scored points, 3 of them in more than one event.
Max Hoberman picked up 2 golds. He won the triple jump (44-00.5), and with David Hoffman formed half of the winning 4 x 100 relay team (43.99). Hoberman also placed 6th in the long jump (19-6).
Hoffman, meanwhile, snagged 2 bronzes, in the 100 (11.32) and 200 (23.05).
Walker Marsh earned 3 medals. Two came in relays: 4 x 400 team (2nd, 3:24.34) and 4 x 800 (5th, 8:26.86). The junior also took 4th in the 800 (1:59.78).
In field events, junior Ethan Bradeen was 4th in the high jump (5-10), while classmate Tucker Rizzi placed 5th in the javelin (144-2). Sophomore Steven Sobel’s 117-3 javelin toss was good for 13th.
