Diego Alanis Invites Jim Himes To Staples

One day recently, Advanced Placement Government teacher John Miller gave a “half tongue-in-cheek” challenge: Invite Connecticut’s 4th district congressman Jim Himes to class.

Diego Alanis took up the challenge.

The 2013 Staples soccer co-captain emailed an invitation to the representative’s office. Himes soon emailed back his acceptance.

Last week, the Democrat conducted a question-and-answer session with all Staples AP Government classes. He talked about the unpopularity of Congress, partisanship, the debt ceiling and gun control.

“It was great,” Diego told the Westport News. “Everything he said is somehow connected to the class. It was pretty amazing.”
