Avery Mueller, Santi Alfageme Named ’23 Captains
A pair of experienced returnees will lead the 2023 Staples boys soccer team.
Avery Mueller and Santi Alfageme have been selected as captains, head coach Russell Oost-Lievense announced today.
Two of the most experienced returnees, the current juniors — a midfielder and defender, respectively — were chosen based on input from the players.
“We are very excited,” Oost-Lievense said.
“While there were many viable options, these 2 were the right fit for what we need to lead us forward after a difficult season last year. Both balance each other out perfectly, and know the work is just beginning. As last year also shows, there is always room for leaders with or without the armband.”
Earlier, Alfageme was named by ’22 co-captain Ben Douglas to succeed him as “#15.” The jersey honors the memory and legacy of Preston Hirten.
