Dan Dias Joins Staff As JV Coach

Dan Dias is the newest addition to the Staples boys soccer coaching staff.

Dan Dias

Dan earned raves as coach of the Majic U-17 team this spring.  For the past 2 years, he also served as both junior varsity and freshman coach at Bridgeport’s Central High School.

Dan played soccer at Fairfield Prep.  He earned his BA in criminal justice at Albertus Magnus College, and is currently working on his masters degree in liberal studies there.  His goal is to become a high school social studies teacher.

Dan speaks Spanish, Portuguese and French.

“Dan will be an awesome addition to our staff,” says head coach Dan Woog.

“Everyone I talked to — players, parents and coaches he’s worked with — loves him.  His philosophy fits perfectly with the Staples environment:  work hard, play smart and skillful soccer, be positive, have fun.  He’s well organized, and runs great training sessions.

“I was particularly impressed when I heard about a Majic game this spring.  They were down 3-0 at halftime.  Dan made some adjustments — tactically and mentally — and they ended up winning the match.”

Dan replaces Ross McGibney ’06.  After 2 superb years as JV coach, he is returning to school and collegiate play at Southern Connecticut State University.

“It was not easy filling Ross’s shoes,” Woog says.  “Fortunately, Dan will continue our great tradition of very strong coaches.”
