FCIAC Pairings Set: Staples Hosts Wilton Wednesday, 3:30 PM
On Friday, Staples completed an undefeated regular season — the 15th Wrecker squad in 68 years to do so.
Today, they turn their attention to Wednesday.
With Fairfield Warde’s victory in their final regular season match this afternoon, the pairings are set for the FCIAC tournament.
The Wreckers begin their quest for their 29th league title — and 2nd in a row — on Wednesday at Wakeman Field.
The 14-0-1*, top-seeded Stapleites host 6-5-4, #8 Wilton. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
Just 3 days ago, the Westporters wrecked the Warriors’ Senior Night, 2-0 at Kristine Lilly Field. It was a strong showing for Wilton, who went at Staples more aggressively than any team has all year.
The other quarterfinals — in which the top seed is the home team — are:
#2 Stamford (10-2-3) vs. #7 Fairfield Warde (6-4-5)
#3 Trumbull (10-3-2) vs. #6 Danbury (8-7-0)
#4 Greenwich (9-3-3) vs #5 Ridgefield (7-4-4).
The semifinals are set for Saturday, October 31 (1 and 3 p.m.), with the finals on Wednesday, November 4 (6 p.m.). All 3 matches will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe.
*Staples finished 15-0-1 overall. Their schedule included an 11-2 non-league win at Enfield.
