Jeff Lea Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Players from Jeff Lea’s first state championship team — and 3 others — were on hand Saturday night, as the winningest coach in Staples soccer history was inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame.

Lea — who first coached the junior varsity under Albie Loeffler, then succeeded him in 1978 — earned 5 state crowns and 12 FCIAC titles. He retired in 2002, after compiling a 357-77-42 record.

Lea thanked his many players, coaching colleagues and family, in his remarks. He joins 8 other members of the Hall of Fame class of 2026, including longtime Danbury High coach Gary Donaldson, and University of Connecticut coach Chris Gbandi.
