0Ken Murphy ’76 Named To Fairfield County Hall Of Fame
Hard-nosed midfielder Ken Murphy ’76 — currently the men’s varsity coach at Connecticut College — will be inducted into the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame‘s University of Connecticut wing.
The former Wrecker captain and 2-time All-State selection led the University of Connecticut to 3 NCAA tournament appearances. Captain of the 1979 Husky squad, he was a 3-time All-Yankee Conference and 2-time All-New England pick.
He played 2 years with the North American Soccer League’s Detroit Express before a knee injury ended his career.
This year’s 4 inductees — including Staples graduate Sean Mulcahy, who played football at UConn — bring to 17 the number of athletes enshrined in the county’s Hall of Fame’s University of Connecticut wing. Previous Staples soccer inductees include Tim Hunter ’71 and Paul Hunter ’73.
The hall is housed at UConn’s Stamford campus.
The induction ceremony is set for Thursday, June 2 (5:30 p.m.), at UConn-Stamford. For more information, click here or email tomc@fairfieldcountysports.com.
