0Livestream Begins With Saturday’s Scrimmage
Spectators will not be allowed on The Hill this year. COVID restrictions will keep them from many other venues, including Testa Field at Norwalk High, where the Staples boys soccer team plays its first pre-season scrimmage this Saturday (September 26).
But Westport parents, friends and fans — and anyone anywhere around the globe with an internet connection — can watch the Wreckers in action. Thanks to generous contributions from alumni, all matches will be livestreamed this year.
They’ll be augmented by commentary from WWPT-FM announcers — plus a few special guest commentators. The first is Steve McCoy ’71. The former Staples captain and Duke University star will be on hand Friday, October 2 (4 p.m.) when Staples hosts Danbury.
The livestream — CLICK HERE to see (and bookmark the site) — is produced by GKess Films. They’re the company that handled the Wreckers’ very successful livestream of the state tournament match at Cheshire 2 years ago, with Brad Cox on the call. Neil Brickley ’71 and his son Robert head up the livestream project.
Alumni support has come so far from seniors on the 1969 state champion team, in honor of teammate Mark Brickley; Neil Brickley ’71 and the 1970 state champion team; the 1981 and ’82 state champion teams; Peter and Steve Dickstein (’73 and ’75 respectively), in honor of their father Howard, a longtime Superfan, and the Top of the Hill Team.
Contributions are still needed, to cover all games. (One match costs $250.) The Venmo account is @StaplesBoysSoccer. Checks made out to “Staples Boys Soccer” can be sent to Dan Woog, 301 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880.
