1Matt Silver Stars In Math Meet
The sophomore — a member of Staples’ junior varsity soccer team — was just 1 point away from a perfect score after 3 rounds in the Wreckers’ 1st math meet of the year.
Matt’s high score helped Staples to a razor-thin 2nd place finish behind Greenwich (95 points, to 94), and ahead of 19 other teams. It was the Wreckers’ best finish ever in a county meet.
Besides his soccer and math skills, Matt is also a national Scrabble champion.
Interestingly, math team co-advisor Sydney Brown — a teacher at Staples — is the mother of 2 former Staples players, Mike ’83 and Steven ’85. Sydney and her husband Dave helped co-found the Westport Soccer Association in 1975.
