0Mikey Scott Earns 4th FCIAC Crown
Mikey Scott — the hard-hitting, tough-running, slick-fielding 2nd baseman for the Staples baseball team — added a 4th FCIAC championship to his Wrecker resume yesterday.
The 4th-seeded baseball team won the FCIAC championship — its 3rd in 4 years — by toppling #1 Danbury 5-3 at Bridgeport’s Harbor Yard.
This is Scott’s 1st league title. He earned 3 FCIAC championships in soccer. He’s also got 2 state crowns — 1 each in soccer and skiing.
In other FCIAC action, Staples track finished 2nd, behind longtime champion Danbury. Sean Gallagher and former soccer player George Birch comprised half of the 4×800 relay team, which won the FCIAC title with a time of 8:05.08.
Gallagher also teamed up with Max Hoberman, as the 4×400 relay squad placed 2nd (3:26.11).
Hoberman was 4th in the triple jump (41-2.).
The volleyball team, which includes soccer players Steven Denowitz and AJ Green, fell to Darien, 3-2 in the FCIAC finals. The Wreckers were shooting for their 9th straight league championship.
State tournament play starts this week for the baseball and volleyball teams.
