2Norwalk-Fairfield Prep State Final Set For Friday
The state LL (extra large schools) state championship game — pitting #1 Norwalk and #3 Fairfield Prep — will be played Friday, Nov. 23. The match is set for 10:30 a.m. at New Canaan High School’s Dunning Stadium.
The post-Thanksgiving Day game — featuring teams from 2 towns bordering Westport — follows an All-Fairfield County semifinal. The Bears reached the title game with a 2-1 victory over Stamford, while the Jesuits prevailed on penalty kicks (7-5) following a scoreless overtime draw with Greenwich.
Staples played 3 out of the 4 semifinalists this year. The Wreckers fell to Norwalk 1-0 in an epic 2nd round battle, on a goal with 17 minutes to play. During the regular season Norwalk prevailed 2-0, with both tallies coming in the final 13 minutes.
Staples played Prep in pre-season. The Jesuits won 1-0 on a long free kick. Two Wrecker shots clanged off posts.
The blue-and-whites split with the Cardinals, winning 1-0 in the regular season but falling 3-0 in the 1st round of FCIAC play.
Staples did not play Stamford during the regular season. With a 16-match limit, and 19 FCIAC teams, the Wreckers missed both the Black Knights and Bassick.
Staples wishes FCIAC foe and friend Norwalk, as well as Fairfield Prep (with defender Tim Frassetto, son of Don Frassetto ’77), good luck in the championship game.

QUICK KICKS: The Bears are hoping for their 1st state championship since 1966. Prep has never won a soccer state soccer title….
Staples athletic director Marty Lisevick’s daughter Alexa plays for a state championship on Saturday. She’s on Avon, which faces Masuk for the girls L crown.
