Scrimmage Report: Fairfield Prep

Every year, the Wreckers play a preseason match at Fairfield Prep’s Rafferty Stadium. It’s always good “prep” for the season.

Staples started slowly today, and the Jesuits nearly scored. But the visitors got balanced scoring, with goals and assists from a variety of players.

There were 3 30-minute periods. In the first, Caleb Tobias fed Jaden Mueller for a 30-yard blast, Murilo Moreno then tallied off a steal.

In the middle period, Tobias’ shot was deflected in, and Reese Watkins finished a long Hunter Smith throw-in.

The final period saw Dylan Hoke pick up a loose ball and score; then Aidan Mermagen assisted on Matthew Jordan’s strike.

Nick Sikorski had a clean sheet in goal, after an early injury to Jacob Greenberger.

Staples’ final preseason test is Saturday, at the Wethersfield jamboree. They face Tolland (10:30 a.m.), Kingswood-Oxford (11:45) and host Wethersfield (1 p.m.), following a ceremony honoring WHS and Staples players lost on 9/11.
