Soccer Players Help Indoor Track Win FCIAC Title

Staples outdistanced archrival Danbury 104.33-92.33 on Thursday, to win the FCIAC boys indoor track championship. A number of soccer players were key contributors.

Jack Scott was part of 2 relays. His 4×400 team placed 3rd (3:30.29), while the 4×200 team finished 6th (1:37.47). The 2013 co-captain also took 5th in the 600, with a time of 1:27.06.

Fellow junior Bobby Jacowleff also took part in 3 events. His 1600 sprint medley relay team — which included freshman James Lewis — won a silver medal (3:46.71). Bobby was 4th in the 55 hurdles (8.08), and 12th in the long jump (18-5 1/2).

In addition to the sprint medley, James ran the 600. He was 14th (1:32.94).

Other Wrecker booters at the meet — held at Hillhouse High School’s Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven — were Ethan Bradeen (high jump, 8th, 5-10) and Victor Kolbin (600, 18th, 1:33.76).

Ahead are the CIAC class LL (extra large schools) state championship February 8, and the CIAC open meet February 16. Both are set for Hillhouse.
