Staples Boys Soccer Foundation: New All-In-One Booster Club

Staples Boys soccer’s two booster clubs are now one.

For many years, parents formed one support group. Another — the Top of the Hill Team — was run by alumni.

A united organization — Staples Boys Soccer Foundation — now serves everyone: players, grads, friends of the program, and future Wreckers.

The result: one united focus on the program’s needs, one way to join and contribute, and many exciting new initiatives, like corporate sponsors, upgraded kits and equipment, and new additions to the calendar.

Those additions include a pre-season retreat for the varsity team; all-family beach party; a second all-squad pasta dinner, WSA Day, and more

SBSF’s focus is to “equip the coaching staff with the tools they need to compete for FCIAC and CIAC titles, while also fostering a soccer community that builds friendship, camaraderie, and leadership, and in turn, helps guide the players through their formative high school years.”

New initiatives include live video coverage of matches for varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams; infrastructure improvements. and support for additional coaches.

Key members of TOTH, and parents of current players, are among SBSF’s board members. The new corporation has applied for 501(c)(3) status, which should be approved soon.

SBSF has already solicited 5 sponsors: Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists (Diamond level); Howard & Gay Insurance (Platinum), and the “06880” blog, Pizza Lyfe and Willows Pediatric Group (Gold).

Several other Staples booster organizations helped with the transition. The captains’ parents have been very involved too.

SBSF co-president Jem Sollinger ’88 calls the organization “the next chapter for a storied program with a wonderful history of producing winning teams. Even more important than the wins is the strength of the Staples boys soccer community, which creates relationships and connectivity among teammates that will persevere and thrive for decades to come. I am a product of this.

“SBSF will stay true to its predecessor TOTH’s mission, while providing increased resources for the program to compete at the highest level.

“Is it our mission to win every game? Of course not. It’s about being competitive and building community. But winning that last game of the season is certainly something that head coach Russ Oost-Lievense, the coaching staff and the boys aspire to.”.
