0Staples-Darien FCIAC Quarterfinal Carried Live On TV
The HAN Television Network — the official TV provider for the FCIAC — will carry Thursday’s FCIAC quarterfinal match between Staples and Darien live, as a pay-per-view event. Here is the press release:
After they couldn’t pick a winner when they met in the regular season, it might be fitting that the Darien Blue Wave and Staples Wreckers will meet in the opening round of the FCIAC boys soccer playoffs. The match will be carried live on the HAN Network Thursday, Oct. 29, at 3:30.
Darien will host the match in the FCIAC postseason pay-per-view event. The Blue Wave secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament on Monday with a 3-1 win over Trumbull, knocking the Eagles out of the eight-team postseason tournament. Staples ended up with the seventh seed after Greenwich beat New Canaan, 3-1, Tuesday in the last game of the regular season.

Darien finished the regular season 10-1-5 and just one point behind No. 1 Danbury (11-2-3, 36 points). Staples finished 8-4-4 (28 points). See complete FCIAC standings here.
The two teams played to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 8 this season — thanks to Darien’s Sam Pfommer’s goal with just five seconds remaining in regulation. Staples had gone up by a goal nine minutes earlier thanks to Graham Gudis’s penalty kick. Last season, Darien knocked Staples out of the Class LL state quarterfinals.
HAN’s FCIAC postseason pay-per-view postseason coverage kicks off it’s coverage of nine postseason games over 10 days with the boys soccer quarterfinals this Thursday. HAN will also provide live coverage of both boys soccer semifinals and the championship. (See schedule below.)
