Staples Soccer Celebrates Turkey Bowl

A record turnout — 70 or so current, former and future Wreckers — celebrated Thanksgiving Day in style. Today’s Turkey Bowl at Wakeman Park was a roaring success.

Players ranged from Steve Baumann ’70 to 6th graders Paddy Donovan and Marius Ekberg. Jim Leonard ’78 came the furthest: New Mexico (though Mark Noonan ’83 flew in from Maui last night).

Old friendships were renewed. New connections were made. The magic of Staples soccer continues.

A typical Turkey Bowl team (rear, from left): Grayle Howlett (former Greenwich High star, honorary Wrecker); Dave Wilson ’75; Stuart McCarthy ’79; Michael McCarthy ’10; Dan Donovan ’82; Eric Drogan ’90; Seth Sholes ’78; Jim Leonard ’76; Mark Noonan ’82. Front: Paddy Donovan and Marius Ekberg, who will graduate from Staples in 2022.
