Staples Soccer Is Smart! Wreckers Enjoy Greatest Quiz Night Ever

What did the 7 Dwarves do for work? How many days are in a fortnight? Where is the Sea of Tranquility located?

Over 40 teams of Staples soccer players, parents and grandparents, siblings, friends and random hangers-on answered those questions — and 45 more — last night, at Staples boys soccer’s annual Quiz Night. At the end, there was a sudden death shootout for both 1st and 2nd place. It was the tightest finish ever, in the 14 years of the event.

(The answers are miners, 14 and the moon, respectively.)

There was enormous energy in the room, as contestants battled to answer questions like what team is the 1st-ever Premier League champion (Manchester United), how old is Ronald McDonald (55), who killed Harry Potter’s parents (Lord Voldemort), the largest living structure on earth (Great Barrier Reef) and the longest ex-presidency (Jimmy Carter: 37 years and still counting).

There was also plenty of food, tons of raffle prizes, and dozens of silent auction items. Funds raised go to the Staples boys soccer program, including upcoming turf fields at Wakeman, upgrading Loeffler Field, the banquet, scholarships and more.

The event was made possible thanks to the hard work and contributions of many Staples parents. Ilsa McColl, Anil Nair, Lindsey Blaivas and Peter Levine headed the project, assisted by Brett Adams, Carolyn Caney, Joanna Douglas, Allison Kogan, Kerry Liles, Mary Ann Lindwall, Maia Montoulieu, Adrian Mueller Mary Ellen Rose, Nicky Wisher and many others.

Head coach Dan Woog said, “This is one of the great nights on our calendar. It’s a fantastic way for the Staples soccer community to come together, have fun, and do what we do best: compete together. And it proves that Staples soccer players — and everyone else associated with our program — is very, very smart.”

BONUS FUN FACT: It was quite a day for Quiz Night co-chair Ilsa McColl. Earlier in the day she became a US citizen.
