State Tournament Semifinal Quick Report: Staples vs. Farmington

A magical season ended harshly for Staples.

The Wreckers possessed and controlled mightily against Farmington tonight, at Waterbury’s Municipal Stadium.

But the River Hawks scored off a corner kick in the 50th minute, then made the goal stand up under intense pressure in the final 30 minutes. A flurry of corner kicks in the waning minutes — on top of several good chances earlier — failed to produce the goal Staples needed.

Farmington moves on to the final this weekend, at Hartford’s Dillon Stadium. They face Cheshire, who upset #1 ranked Xavier on penalty kicks in the game before Staples’.

A full report will be posted tomorrow.
