0Support Laura Blair; Raise Funds For STAR
Staples super-fan Laura Blair is once again working for a great cause.
On Sunday, May 1 she will take part in STAR’s 17th annual Walk, 5K and Roll, at Sherwood Island State Park right here in Westport. STAR serves individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout Mid-Fairfield County.
The Walk, 5K & Roll event helps the organization support 12 group homes and 10 apartments, assisting 110 people with independent living. STAR provides training and job placement to nearly 250 adults. Laura is involved through Jenna, the woman she serves as a caretaker for. Jenna has physical and intellectual disabilities, and has benefited greatly from the generosity of STAR donors.
Each year, Laura raises thousands of dollars for this worthy cause. Last year, her total was over $14,000. The Staples High School community has always provided much of Laura’s funds. This year, Laura’s goal is huge: $15,000.
Each fall she is on the Hill — and wherever we travel — providing players with post-game treats, warm blankets, and moral support.
The walking route is suitable for any ability (walkers, strollers, wheelchairs and baby joggers are welcome). Attendees receive lunch, a t-shirt and hat, and can enjoy demonstrations, cultural and community activities too.
