Surya Balaji, Jack Douglas Named 2020 Captains
The first Staples soccer team of the new decade will be led by one returning captain, and one new one.
Seniors Surya Balaji and Jack Douglas will lead the 2020 Wreckers on and off the field, head coach Dan Woog announced today
Balaji — the first junior captain since James Hickok in 2011 — anchored the defense last fall. Douglas started as a defensive midfielder, but suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the first regular season match, at Central.
Both earned high marks from teammates, in end-of-the-season evaluations.
“We have a strong group of returnees,” Woog said. “Surya and Jack will work hard to make sure that everyone is ready, physically and mentally, to compete for jobs and build on last year’s success. They’re excited to work with players at every level of our program, and with the coaching staff. And we’re excited too.”
