Tuesday’s State Tournament Site Change: Match Now At Wakeman Turf

Rain all fall — and constant use by the Staples boys and girls teams — has made Loeffler Field bumpy.

Rain is predicted for Monday and Tuesday. So the Wreckers’ 1st round state tournament match has been moved a few hundred yards north. Kickoff is 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Wakeman turf field (Bedford Middle School).

This will be Staples’ 1st-ever home tournament game played away from Staples. “We will miss being at The Hill,” head coach Dan Woog admitted. “But we want the best conditions possible for this match. We’re certainly familiar with Wakeman — it’s our home away from home.” The Wreckers train there, play scrimmages there, and occasionally play regular season games there too. For example, in September they faced Danbury at Wakeman.

“This year’s team has done things no other team in history has done,” Woog noted. “This is one more of those firsts. We look forward to seeing all our fans at Wakeman on Tuesday!”
