Wreckers End Pre-Season With 3rd Win
Josh Whitaker’s penalty kick and Ford Epstein’s alert goal paced Staples to a 2-0 win over Fairfield Prep this morning, at Grauert Field.
The victory — following a 10-0 rout of Brookfield on Tuesday — gave the Wreckers a 3-0 mark in pre-season scrimmages.
The matches that count begin Tuesday. Staples’ FCIAC opener is 6:30 p.m., at New Canaan.
The Westporters’ defense did not allow the Jesuits a shot on goal. Offensively, Staples moved quickly, and used the entire field to control much of the match.
Whitaker buried his PK early. Late in the game, Epstein pounced on a loose ball in the box to ice the game.
The 8:30 a.m. start may have been the earliest kickoff ever for a Staples match.
