Wreckers Enter 5K Race; Raise Funds For Hole In The Wall Gang Camp

For the 3rd year in a row, the Staples boys soccer program is competing in Fairfield’s Faxon Law 5k race. Once again, they do it for 2 good reasons: for the race experience, and to raise funds for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

The event is on Saturday morning, June 27. The terrain is flat, and the race ends with music and a party on Jennings Beach. Over 1,500 runners compete.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded by Westport’s own Paul Newman. It provides wonderful experiences for more than 30,000 children and their families coping with cancer and serious illnesses each year — completely free of charge. There is a minimum $25 donation — but Staples players are urged to raise as much money as possible, from friends and families. There’s a prize for the Wrecker who raises the most.

“Everyone is impacted in some way by cancer,” says head coach Dan Woog. “This is a great way to get in shape — and help kids who are far less fortunate than we are. I hope every player who is in town that day races, and raises as much money as he can.”
