Wreckers Finish 5-Month Fitness Regimen Strongly

Since early January, 2 dozen Staples players — varsity returnees as well as hopefuls — gathered at 6 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in the Fitness Center.

For a solid hour they lifted weights, strengthened their core, worked on agility, and bonded as a team.

“The results are dramatic,” said head coach Dan Woog. “Adding strength and confidence to everything these guys already have is key. Based on what I’ve seen, this could be the strongest team physically we’ve ever had. The key is to keep it up over the summer, on their own and through team workouts. And, of course, to play as much as possible.”

Woog cited junior leadership, and the commitment of sophomores and freshmen, as crucial to the fitness program’s success.

Top 5 attendance leaders by grade were:

Juniors: Andrew Puchala (37 sessions), followed in order by Michael Reid, Patrick Beusse, Matt Bateman and Gabe Pensak.

Sophomores:  Noah Schwaeber (33), followed in order by Grant Sirlin, Jack Zeldes, Aidan Wisher and Max Hammer.

Freshmen:  Daniel Reid (38), followed in order by Sam Kantor, Shane Dasbach, Josh Berman and Luca Cocito.
