0Wreckers Hang With KHS Kids
The Staples soccer team enjoys performing community service. The Wreckers cook and serve meals at the Gillespie Center. They shovel snow (and, after hurricanes, sand).
They’re often asked to donate themselves at charity auctions too. Each year, they offer themselves to the highest bidder for groups like A Better Chance and Kings Highway Elementary School. (That’s where goalkeeper coach Tom Henske’s daughter Sammi goes.)
This morning, 8 varsity players gave up sleep (and Premier League matches) to kick around and play with a group of KHS 1st and 2nd graders. The little kids had a great time. So did the Wreckers!
Head coach Dan Woog thanked Andres Marmelo (who led the crew), and Josh Berman, Matteo Broccolo, Spencer Daniels, Kenji Goto, Graham Gudis, Sam Kantor and Jack Zeldes. “Our guys really understand the importance of giving back,” he said. “It’s all about soccer, and the town. Plus the sun came out. It’s all good.”
