Wreckers Open Pre-Season With A Win

The Liam Witham era began with a solid win over Shelton yesterday, at Wakeman Field.

The pre-season scrimmage marked the first-ever meeting between Staples and the Southern Connecticut Conference side.

After the Gaels took the lead with an early penalty kick, the Wreckers responded with 5 straight. Brendan Allen got the first 2; Noah Rossoni followed with a hat trick. The visitors scored 2 late goals, to make the final 5-3.

Two away games are next: Brookfield on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.), and Fairfield Prep on Saturday, August 30 (8:30 a.m.). The regular season begins September 2, at New Canaan (6;30 p.m.).
