Wreckers Take 2nd Preseason Match
For several years, Staples and Fairfield Prep have tangled in pre-season scrimmages.
It’s always a good match-up.
This afternoon at Rafferty Field did not disappoint. The Jesuits should do some damage in their SWC league, and the Class LL state tournament this year.
But for the second time in 4 days, the Wreckers scored early, and looked solid for much of the match.
The first goal began with a lovely cross-field ball from defender Cormac Mulvey. Jonny Costello finished calmly.
The hosts equalized, but a build-up from Will Murray and Josh Whitaker led to a nice follow-up by Costello.
A long arcing shot by Emmet Nivaud led to his second goal in as many matches.
The final pre-season game is this Friday (6 p.m. at Brookfield). Staples opens the regular season next Wednesday, at Wakeman Field vs. New Canaan.
