0Wreckers Volunteer For WIN Tournament
Every year, Staples players volunteer at the Westport Soccer Association’s WIN tournament. They help out at scorers’ tables, serve as runners, officiate, and do whatever else is asked.
This year, over 2 dozen varsity, junior varsity and freshman players answered the call. The Saturday volunteers had the toughest job in the 30-year history of the event. Torrential rain and 60 mph winds created havoc with the games on the Staples football and field hockey fields.
Tournament officials thanked the Staples boys (and girls) teams for their much-needed help.
Sunday’s matches were canceled. Power was off throughout the high school, with no estimate of when it would be restored.
Thanks to all who volunteered — whether they were able to work or not.
