0James Hickok ’13 Named Dartmouth Captain
James Hickok ’13 — Staples’ Academic All-American and FCIAC champion goalkeeper — has been named captain of the 2016 Dartmouth College team. It’s not a new role: He was a 2-time captain for the Wreckers.
Hickok started 5 matches last fall, going 3-2-0 with shutouts against Holy Cross and Northeastern. His goals-against average was 0.78.
As a sophomore, Hickok started 3 matches (2-1-0). He was a 2-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week pick as a freshman, when he started 10 games, went 4-4-2 and had a 1.05 goals-against average.
The Big Green are coming off a 12-6-1 record. They were 6-1-0 in the Ivy League, winning their 2nd consecutive conference championship. They fell in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament, to Syracuse University.
“We are extremely proud of James,” said Staples head coach Dan Woog. “He has already made his mark at Dartmouth. We can’t wait to see what he will accomplish as a full-time starter this fall.”
Hickok continues a strong Staples-Dartmouth tradition. The Wreckers have sent a number of players north — and Dave Wilson ’75, Jono Sollinger ’86 and Chris Mitchell ’91 all went on to become Big Green captains too.
