Brad Tursi ’97 Wins Top Country Music Award
In 1996, Brad Tursi helped the Wreckers to an FCIAC championship, and a superb season. Staples finished 19-1-2. The only loss came in overtime of the state finals, to Guilford.
On Sunday night in Las Vegas, Tursi won a “championship.”
The guitarist’s band Old Dominion was named Vocal Group of the Year, at the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
Billboard called it”the biggest upset of the night.” They beat Little Big Town, winners 4 of the past 5 years. Other contenders were Lady Antebellum, Lanco and Midland.
Old Dominion’s 3rd straight nomination came on the heels of their 2nd album, Happy Endings — nominated for ACM Album of the Year, with Number 1 singles “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” and “Written in the Sand” — and a world tour.
Tursi is a busy musician — and he’ll be even busier now. But whenever he’s in the area, he stops by The Hill. If he’s around for the 60th anniversary celebration on October 13, we hope he’ll play in the alumni pick-up game after the varsity match.
And perhaps play guitar at the party at Dan Donovan’s house that night.
