New Halftime Home At Loeffler Field
For years, Staples’ equipment shed — with a large block “S,” and the proud years of 27 FCIAC and 12 state championships — has served as a fitting backdrop to Loeffler Field.
Now it has a new function.
A crew of Staples players, led by tri-captain Jackson Hochhauser and working with former freshman coach Chris O’Dell, has turned the dark. muddy interior into a pre-game and halftime home.
Hochhauser and O’Dell worked to design the space. Then the captain — with Jack Foster, Nate Fridland, Matthew Jordan, Alex Laskin and Hunter Smith — and tremendous professional help from O’Dell’s O Living construction crew, made their vision a reality.
The old shed now boasts benches with storage space underneath, hooks for bags, a window for light, and a gravel floor. Still to come: blue and white paint (with a block “S”), coaches’ whiteboard, and a sign.
“This is really, really impressive,” says head coach Dan Woog. “Jackson had an idea, and with plenty of help he made it a reality. It looks amazing.
“This will be our space. In the past we’ve been scattered behind the benches. Now we can be a tight team, together, before matches and at halftime. It really will be ‘home.'”
The Wreckers will use their new home for the first time on opening day, September 10, against Ridgefield. Game time is 4 p.m.
