0Charlie Reiter ’06 Makes Maccabiah Team
Charlie Reiter is headed to Israel.
The former Wrecker midfielder — currently starring at Davidson College — competes next month on the US men’s national soccer team, in the 18th World Maccabiah Games. Held every 4 years — as the 3rd largest international sporting event in the world — the Maccabiah Games are often called “the Jewish Olympics.”
Each country sends national teams made up of the best Jewish athletes, in a variety of sports. In 2005 the US beat Mexico to reach the final, but lost the championship match to host Israel.
Charlie was chosen in December for the 20-man squad. It includes several top Division I college players, including the goalkeeper for NCAA champion University of Maryland, and the center back from runnerup University of North Carolina.
Charlie — who as a U-14 player was part of the national team pool — played in every game during his first 3 seasons at Davidson. He is one of the team’s top scorers, from his midfield position.
